Because their parents couldn't support them to study. In contrast, they support their family by selling flowers or foods at night in the restaurant. These stories really made me wounder, what those charity organisations did with all those millions they collected all those years for schools or orphan homes in Cambodia. I live in the Netherlands and im not Khmer, but i see how many people abuse poverty to collect money. There for I hope the Serey platform will go viral among Cambodians worldwide to unite them, to rebuild the country for the next generation. And you dont need to be a Khmer to think that, you only need to think as a human being! Thank you for sharing your post!

Poverty never end, solved old poverty, new poverty comes. Yeah you are right billions of dollars pull in to Cambodia, there were good stories and bad one. The good one there are a lot of kids whose life improve from the help of those organization, and the bad one is people just used poverty and kids to raise fund for their own comfort.

I think the western organization should open their books and proof what they do with the money. On this moment there are CEO's who earn more then a bank CEO, and all from donations money. That could only be stopped in the west. But i think most of the people in the west don't have a clue what is going on in countries were povery is. I think that could change when the truth about the organizations who are now in Cambodia, open their books to the western world. To show evidence and proof about how they spend the money, and if they can't do that, then they are not correct. That could open the administration about the donations money, and force organizations to pay every donations what they got, to support the charity. Like in 2010 was a disaster in Haiti, and the Netherlands gathered 83 million for Haiti, and not more then 29 million was used for support. And all other millions was "administration" money. To me thats just fraud and should stop. Now i dont know how it goes in Cambodia, but if my father in law can help build a school in Battambang, help to create roads, and support the village in any way he can, while he is not a millionair and did not had thousands of dollars. Then that made me wounder what those organizations are doing there, who are getting thousands of dollars or even more. And yes it's needed to use some of the money for travel, or administration or for workers or for anything to keep the engine of support running. But it doesn't look like that is happening on this moment.
