One day a young man got out of his house at 10PM and walked around the city,
in his life he want to experience any corner of like, so he wonders how the world
really look like at the night, so he walked and walked and walked, until he arrived
at the park, he stoped and sat down for a few minutes and thinking may be tonight
he is going to sleep there, because he decided not to go back and sleep at home.
In the park, there were still people walk around even it is getting less and less. The
great thing about the park is there are light and some people also were sleeping there.
A few moments later, he decided to continue his walked and he met a little boy who was trying
to collect bottles and cans from the rubbish. Another boy was also walking with him, they were brothers,
the boy was so young, they were 6 and 10 yearsold, by the way they were not the only two,
their father was also walking around with an old motor with a trailer. The young man suddenly
asked their father, "what are you doing? could i joined you and sleep at your home for one night",
because the young man also has no place to go, no place to sleep, being with that family of three
was just like a miracle for him that night. The father didn't say anything, because poor people
never think much, because they have nothing to lose, nothing to fear. So the father agreed.
In the middle of the night, 4 guys (a father, a young man and two little boys) went from
garbage to garbage to find any possible bottles and cans, first the young man didn't
want to touch the bottles or cans from the garbage, it smelled really bad, and he think
there might be a lot of batteria and virus, but he could not help but to help going
through the garbage and find the cans and bottles. From one garbage to another,
the feeling of the young man start changing, from not wanting to go to the garbage
realized that the garbage was just like a mountain full of gold, diamond and precious thing,
because wherever there is garbage, there might be a chance of finding some cans and
bottles which could be sold and get the money, so they continues only 3AM in the next
morning. The young man look at the very little boy foot, he saw that the foot was infected.
May be because those little boys walked over the garbage everydays. They help their
father every night from evening to early morning and went back to sleep.
A long the way home, the father drove the motor, while the young man sitting with the two
little boys behind, suddenly the two little boys were all fall asleep as it was almost 3AM to 4AM,
the young man try to catch the two little boys with his both hands, afraid that they would fall
from the motorbike. he thought what happen if he would not be there tonight, the boy might
falled from the motor, but it was just one night that the young man spent time with this family.
When arrived home at the slum of steung mean chey, there were a whole family who were waiting
at home, his wife and may be 3 more chidren. This is the life of the poor, they are poor and they've
got so many children. So the father allowed the young man to sleep on the first floor with the 10 years old
boy, and all the rest sleep downstairs. The young man spent one night there with the family.
Early morning may be around 6:45AM, the young man waked up, and he realized that
it was already morning, so he decided to get out of the bed, and asked the family to
go back home, the father might not sleep enough because they just got home
at 4AM and 6:45AM the young man wake up and ask them to open the door.
Before leaving the young man gave them 200,000Riels which was probably
50$, he knew that it was not much, but at least could make the family
happy a bit. The young man also want to buy some slipper
for the two little boys and take the young boy to hospital,
but he didn't remember the family house as they got
to the house so dark, and get out early. So it was just
like a quick dream and a life experience.
