Tunisia's newly elected president sends his wife on a five-year vacation

Tunisia's new president, Kayes Saeed, has asked his judge's wife to go on leave for five years.

 

Immediately after taking oath, President Quaid Saeed declared a strong stand against corruption, and his decision to keep his wife out of the judiciary is believed to be part of that.

 

He said he had taken this decision to protect the independence of the country's judiciary and that his wife would not be paid any salary as long as he was on vacation.

 

Kayes Saeed said he was elected president for a five-year term.

 

Because of his wife's presence in the judiciary during this time, he does not want any question about the independence of the department.

 

Qais Saeed, sworn in as Tunisian president, retired on Wednesday.

 

The swearing-in took place in the Tunisian parliament.

 

Earlier, the former professor of Tunisia University was elected as the Independent candidate in the second round of the presidential election on October 9, receiving 42.3 percent votes.

 

His opponent, Nabil Karuiyi, received 28.25 percent of the vote.
