Let's look at, in my opinion, the most interesting architectural structures of Odessa. Today it is the Potemkin stairs.

For centuries, the most famous staircase in Odessa and Ukraine was called: Vorontsovskaya, richelievskaya, Gigantic, Kamennaya, Primorskaya, Portovaya, Nikolaevsky Boulevard staircase and Feldman Boulevard staircase.

This structure connects the Central part of the city and the sea station. Initially, the staircase had exactly two hundred steps. Today Potemkin stairs are 192 steps and one of the main attractions of Odessa!

The stairs narrow as you climb. At the base, the width of the steps is 21.6 meters, at the highest point — 13.4 meters. This creates an optical illusion: if you look down from a height, the staircase appears to be the same width. This effect is noticeable in the photo of the Potemkin stairs in Odessa.

From the top of the Potemkin stairs, you can see an incredible sea panorama and cruise liners coming to the city.

It is easy to climb the stairs, thanks to the optimally calculated angle of the steps, moreover, the staircase is divided into ten flights, each of them with twenty steps.

Potemkin stairs got its name thanks to the Director Sergei Eisenstein, who made the film "Battleship Potemkin" (1925). 

In the key scene of this movie, a baby stroller rolls down the stairs. When Eisenstein made the film, he concentrated various scenes around the perimeter of the staircase. After the premiere, the poet Nikolai Aseev in his work "How the film "Battleship "Potemkin" was shot "said that" the Odessa stairs ... will not be forgotten by the audience". In cinema, huge steps are forever associated with the battleship Potemkin.

You can talk about the Potemkin stairs for a long time and use hundreds of adjectives to describe them. It is not surprising that famous people have repeatedly spoken about the stairs.
