For a long time, flowers have decorated our lives, served as a source of inspiration, a wonderful mood, were and will be the most important component of any celebration, even the most modest holiday.

But even in the difficult moments of our life, we do not forget about the bouquet, which is able to decorate the last path of people dear to us. The exquisite beauty of flowers is fanned by many legends, stories, and myths as beautiful as they are themselves. The history of the origin of this royal flower is incredibly diverse, mysterious, as well as interesting legends that accompany the rose for millions of years of its existence.

In ancient Greece, the rose was always considered a gift of the Gods. The body of the beautiful Aphrodite was covered with snow-white foam, which turned into beautiful flowers when she came out of the sea to land. The gods, seeing these divine flowers, sprinkled them with fragrant nectar and named them a rose. Aphrodite hurried to help the mortally wounded Dionysus, not noticing the sharp thorns of the rose bushes through which she had to run. They bit into her tender body and, falling to the ground with drops of blood, painted the white rose petals red.

Well, the first historical evidence appeared in the second millennium BC in Crete, where roses were depicted on the palace walls. In ancient Egypt, this flower was painted on tombs.

However, it would be incorrect to say that roses were valued by all ancient civilizations. For example, it is known that the Christian Church considered this flower a symbol of promiscuity.

But time passed, tastes and preferences changed. By about 400 AD, the rose became popular again. Perhaps, it was the first to be grown in pots and in the gardens of Greece. This hobby was eagerly picked up by the Romans.

Ancient healers made medicines and cosmetics from its petals, its fruits (rosehip) were used as rosaries. The rich people slept on rose petals, and even covered the floors with them. Early roses were brought from Egypt and grown in greenhouses that were specially heated.

The petals were even used for food, and windows were made in temples that resembled rose flowers in outline.

But as you know, history rules the world. Some dynasties and empires are collapsing, others are rising. Tastes, fashion and preferences change. When Rome fell, the enthusiasm for them began to subside, and only the hardiest varieties remained in Europe.

After the revolution and to the present day, the rose was and remains practically the main garden crop. New varieties are being developed for different climatic zones of our country.

Perhaps, today we can say with confidence that there is no such corner in our country where it has not conquered the gardens of ordinary summer residents and owners of country mansions.
