মধুমতি নদীর ওপর ৬ লেনের কালনা সেতু চালু হচ্ছে শিগগিরই। নির্মাণকাজ শেষ হয়েছে ৮৮ ভাগ। সেতুটি চালু হলে ঢাকা থেকে খুলনার দূরত্ব কমবে ১২১ কিলোমিটার। আর ২০০ কিলোমিটার কমবে ঢাকা-কলকাতা দূরত্ব।পুরোদমে এগিয়ে চলছে দক্ষিণ পশ্চিমাঞ্চলবাসীর বহুল কাঙ্ক্ষিত কালনা সেতুর নির্মাণকাজ.
২০২০ সালের ১৫ মে বাংলাদেশ সড়ক ও জনপথ বিভাগের তত্ত্বাবধানে ‘ক্রস বর্ডার রোড নেটওয়ার্ক ইমপ্রুভমেন্ট প্রজেক্ট’ এর আওতায় শুরু হয় সেতুর নির্মাণকাজ।
দেশের প্রথম ৬ লেনের এ সেতুর কাজ ৮৮ ভাগ সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। ৬৯০ মিটার দীর্ঘ ও ২৭ দশমিক ১ মিটার প্রস্থের এ সেতুকে দৃষ্টিনন্দন করে তুলেছে ১৫০ মিটার স্টিলের নেলসন লসি আর্চ। সেতুর সংযোগ সড়কের কাজও শেষ। এতে স্প্যান রয়েছে ১৩টি ও গার্ডার ১৬০টি। এর মধ্যে বাকি ৮টি গার্ডার ইরাকসান এবং ৪টি স্প্যানের ডেক্সস্লাবের কাজ। এ সেতু চালু হলে কমবে দূরত্ব, সাশ্রয় হবে জ্বালানির।
The 6-lane Kalna Bridge over the Madhumati River will be launched soon. The construction work has been completed in 8 parts. If the bridge is opened, the distance from Dhaka to Khulna will be reduced to 121 km. The distance between Dhaka and Kolkata will be reduced to 200 km. The construction of the bridge started on 15 May 2020 under the 'Cross Border Road Network Improvement Project' under the supervision of Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department.
Work on the country's first 6-lane bridge has been completed by 8 percent. The 690-meter-long and 26.1-meter-wide bridge is adorned with 150-meter steel Nelson Lucy Arch. Work on the road connecting the bridge has also been completed. It has 13 spans and 160 girders. Of these, the remaining 6 girders are Iraqi and 4 span dexlabs. If this bridge is opened, the distance will be reduced and fuel will be saved
