গোপালগঞ্জের কাশিয়ানী উপজেলার মধুমতি নদীর ওপর নির্মাণাধীন দেশের প্রথম ছয় লেনের কালনা সেতু সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে যান চলাচলের জন্য খুলে দেওয়া হচ্ছে।
এ সেতুর পূর্বপাড়ে কাশিয়ানী উপজেলা ও পশ্চিম পাড়ে নড়াইল জেলার লোহাগড়া উপজেলা। সেতুটি চালু হলে দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের পর্যটন, শিল্প ও বাণিজ্যে প্রসার ঘটাবে বলে মনে করছেন স্থানীয়রা।
কালনা সেতুর প্রকল্প ব্যবস্থাপক ও সড়ক জনপথ অধিদপ্তরের নড়াইলের নির্বাহী প্রকৌশলী মো. আশরাফুজ্জামান জানান, সংযোগ সড়কের কাজ শেষ হয়েছে; মূল সেতুর দুটি স্প্যান বসানোর কাজও সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। সব মিলিয়ে ৯৫ ভাগ কাজ শেষ হয়েছে।
দেশের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের দশ জেলার জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও দৃষ্টিনন্দন এ সেতুটি দেশের প্রথম ছয় লেনের সেতু উল্লেখ করে তিনি বলেন, “সড়ক জনপথ অধিদপ্তরের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারা সম্প্রতি সেতুর কাজ পরিদর্শন করেছেন।
“তাদের নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী আগামী সেপ্টেম্বরে সেতুতে যানবাহন চালানোর লক্ষ্যে কাজ চলছে।”
সওজের এ প্রকৌশলী বলছেন, এ সেতু চালু হলে নড়াইল, যশোর, বেনাপোল স্থলবন্দর ও খুলনা থেকে ঢাকা যাতায়াতকারী পরিবহন মাগুরা-ফরিদপুর হয়ে যাতায়াতের পরিবর্তে কালনা হয়ে যাতায়াত করতে পারবে।
এতে বেনাপোল-ঢাকা ও যশোর-ঢাকার দূরত্ব ১১৩ কিলোমিটার, খুলনা-ঢাকার দূরত্ব ১২১ কিলোমিটার এবং নড়াইল-ঢাকার দূরত্ব ১৮১ কিলোমিটার কমবে।
The country's first six-lane Kalna Bridge under construction on the Madhumati River in Kashiani Upazila of Gopalganj is being opened to traffic in September.
Kashiani upazila on the east bank of the bridge and Lohagarh upazila of Narail district on the west bank. The locals believe that the opening of the bridge will boost tourism, industry and trade in the south-west.
Kalna Bridge Project Manager and Narail Executive Engineer of the Department of Roads and Highways. Ashrafuzzaman said the work on the connecting road has been completed; The installation of two spans of the main bridge has also been completed. In all, 95 percent of the work has been completed.
Referring to the first six-lane bridge in the country, which is important and scenic for ten districts in the south-west of the country, he said, “Senior officials of the Roads and Highways Department have recently inspected the work of the bridge.
"Work is underway to run vehicles on the bridge next September as per their instructions."
According to the RSA engineer, if the bridge is opened, transport from Narail, Jessore, Benapole land port and Khulna to Dhaka will be able to travel via Kalna instead of Magura-Faridpur.
The distance between Benapole-Dhaka and Jessore-Dhaka will be reduced to 113 km, Khulna-Dhaka to 121 km and Narail-Dhaka to 161 km
