Espil, 25, fell to his death after saving a penalty in a match against SK Westrojebeka on Saturday. At the beginning of the second half of the match, Westrojebeker received a penalty. The unconscious Espil did not return after saving the penalty.
In this regard, the assistant coach of Winkel Sport said, "The game was going on at that time. Espil was knocked unconscious after catching the ball in a rush. This is very shocking. An autopsy will be conducted to find out the exact cause of his death.

This is not the first case of death on the football field. Earlier in 2003, Cameroon player Marc Vivian Fo died of a heart attack during a match against Colombia. In 2014, Persiraja's forward Akli Fairuz, who played in the Indonesian Premier League, died on the field after being hit by an opponent.
