Hazrat Umar (ra) accepted Islam and asked, O Messenger of Allah, what is the number of Muslims now? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) replied: Forty people with Tayma. Umar said that was enough.
I will not allow the truth to be suppressed for fear of untruth. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) gladly commanded this good will of Hazrat Umar (ra). With the Muslim group The Quraish who were present at the Ka'bah when they saw Hazrat Umar (ra) in this manner were astonished and dismayed.
Seeing their attitude, Hazrat Umar (ra) roared loudly and said, "I warn you, if you touch the hair of a Muslim, Umar's sword will be raised against you from today." A Quraish present in the Kaaba dared to say: O son of Khattab! Have you really become a Muslim? The Arabs seldom get rid of it.
Do you know if you get things and promise that way? Hazrat Umar (ra) replied in a loud voice that people cannot imagine getting more than that. That thing is Al-Quran. No one dared to speak after hearing such eloquent words of Hazrat Umar (ra). Disappointed, the Quraish all left.
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed with all of them in the Ka'bah. Earlier, Muslims practiced religion in secret. Pashak could also protect the difference in costumes. That is why there was a way to know who is a Muslim and who is a pagan.
After this incident, the Muslims became a separate community in dress and religion. On the occasion of this historic change, the Prophet (peace be upon him) conferred the title of 'Al-Faruq' on Hazrat Umar (ra).
