Yesterday I and my team "kajola actualizers team" went to all the 16 public schools in kajola to talk on "moral decadence" the likes of Drug abuse, Internet fraud, rape. Early marriage etc . The team is a volunteer group not for profit sake.
We set out exactly 9:30am ,each member was supposed to go to his /her posted school with a Corp member to make the visitation a formal one but I went alone because my supposed Corp member disappointed.
Exactly, 10 am I was already in my posted school Onjo high school,Okeho.i went straight to the principal office. We talked,it was easy because we have sent letters to all the public schools prior to that day. Before i forget we had a tournament games among the 16 schools where all the 16 schools principals were around. It was actually full of life.
The principal then ordered one of the teachers to call for assembly. The student gathered and I began the talk on Drug Abuse.
My lecture was based on the following subtopics:
- Definition of Drug,Drug misuse,Drug abuse and Drug addiction.
- Categories of drug abused where I talked about CNS depressants ( bezodiazepines,barbiturates) CNS stimulant (cocaine, caffeine, amphetamine, methamphetamine) Opiate ( heroine, tramadol,morphine, codeine) inhalants ( paint thinner,glues)
- Route of administration of these drugs
- Reasons people abuse drug
- How to curb the manace of Drug abuse
- Prevention of Drug abuse
Then I asked questions and they answered well. The session was interactive and not intimidating as I spoke in both English and yoruba which is our local language.
I learnt that this students are not innocent but they are ready to learn if you come down to their level and be friendly while teaching.
