Female child genital mutilation or female child circumcision
This is a common practice where the external genital organ a female child is remove or reduce for self-fish reasons.
Mostly done without the consent of the child, this practice has no medical advantage, not any. The practice is common in African amongst many cultures and religions.
FGM is mostly carried out on young girls between the age of infancy and 15years. FGM is mostly carried out by uneducated elders who successfully brainwashed the mother of the child(traditional practitioners). In some cases , by religion leaders.
Evidences from research say medical practitioners partook in this practice too.Research says for every 3 female child circumcised 1 of them is circumcised by a medical personnel. Most of these medical personnel belong to the society that supports FGM.
Different communities with their different reasons for endorsing FGM. Some believe it reduces or cut-short the girls sexuality or protecting their chastity which is the most popular believe.
Reasons we should stop this inhumane practice
- Psychological disorder the likes of post trauma syndrome, anxiety, having trust issues
- Difficulty in birth
- Prone to infection
- Increase the spread of S.T.D
- Difficulty in urination
- Excessive bleeding
- Virginal infections
- Female child circumcision is a violation of human right for girls and women
Alot of awareness on this is needed. Not everyone is well educated regarding this.
