They claim to have been framed because of a work-related dispute. Shughufta Kausar Masih's co-worker is suspected of stealing their identity documents and using them to buy cell phone numbers in the couple's name.

The annulment of the spouse Masih's death sentence came after the European Parliament condemned the "alarming" act in a blasphemy case. Commenting on the allegations against Masih and his wife, lawmakers said the evidence was "deeply flawed" and urged Pakistani authorities to lift the death penalty "immediately and unconditionally."
On Thursday (03/06), the lawyer for the Masih couple, Saiful Malook, said his client would be released from prison next week. "I am very happy that we were able to release this couple, they are among the most helpless people in our society," the lawyer said.
