Have you never heard the story of Manny Villar who became the richest man in the Philippines, if you haven't heard, I'll try to share his story here (Serey.io)
His full name is Manny Villar or Manuel Villar is not an ordinary name in the Philippines. Because that name was ranked first in the richest person in the Philippines. Even though he is no longer in first place, he is still able to stay in second place in the richest person in the Philippines.
This is based on the notes I quoted in Forbes, Manny Villar is in the 2nd richest person in the Philippines with a total wealth of US $ 5.8 billion or the equivalent of Rp.85.8 trillion (exchange rate Rp.14,800). Then, what makes Villar's story special?
How did he become the richest man in the Philippines?
The reality Manny Villar was born and raised in an ordinary family. His mother is a fish seller and his father is a low ranking civil servant (PNS). Even so, the second of nine children was never ashamed of his family's condition. In fact, he did not hesitate to help his mother trade in the market.
Manny Villar was known as a smart boy from a young age and his intelligence became more meaningful thanks to the business skills he received from his mother who was a fish trader. From his mother, he became increasingly interested in business and during college without a doubt he majored in Business Administration at the University of the Philippines and got an MBA in the same place. After completing his education, he immediately started a career. He first worked for Sycip Gorres and Velayo (SGV) but later resigned to pursue his first business as a seafood supplier to restaurants in Manila.
Not long after that, he was in the real estate business to be precise in 1975. He got a loan to start the business for 10,000 Philippine Pesos. The capital was used to buy two used trucks and use them to transport gravel and sand for BF Homes in Paranaque City. From then on he focused on the low-cost housing business and eventually founded C&P Homes, which later became Camella Homes.
Currently, he is the head of Vista Mall (formerly Starmalls), one of the largest mall operators in the Philippines. He also leads Vista Land & Lifescapes.
Manny villar Plunged into Politics
Manny Villar then got into politics. He started in 1992 as the people's representative from Las Piñas-Muntinlupa. One of his achievements while serving as a people's representative was signing a bill into law Republic Act (RA) 8003, which declared certain areas in Las Piñas as tourist attractions, which later gave birth to the Historical Corridor in Las Piñas.
After that he then ran for the Senate, where he was elected President of the Pro-Tempore Senate. As successful as in the legislature, he ran for the presidency but failed. This made him decide to leave the world of politics.
Said Villar quoted from Primer.com, Friday (18/9/2020). "I was richer before I went into politics, the best evidence that I did not enrich myself in public office. Now that I am back, I recover what was lost," Villar said as quoted by Primer.com, Friday (18/9/2020) .
Now, Villar is still active in the real estate business. He still holds a place among the richest in the country thanks to his holdings in Vista Land & Lifescapes.
