The Turkish leader made a pledge of support during an official visit to the symbolic city of Shusha, which was captured by Azerbaijani troops in November last year as a turning point in the conflict.
The fighting finally ended when Moscow - Armenia's main military backer - brokered a truce that saw Russian peacekeepers flood into mountainous territory inside Azerbaijan that had been held by Armenian separatists.
