Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide levels rise in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide traps solar radiation, causing surface air temperature to rise. When the amount of carbon dioxide increases, the level of oxygen decreases. This causes the oceans to absorb more carbon dioxide. As a result, ocean waters begin to take on more carbon dioxide. A lower pH means that the acidity of the oceans increases. This makes the water more acidic. As a result, it becomes harder for fish to survive. Important food source for humans are fishes. If they die off, people start to starve.
2. Effects of Flooding
When floodwaters reach their peak, they cause damage to homes, crops, and livestock. Floodwater damages roads, bridges, and buildings. It can also destroy electrical equipment, contaminate drinking water, and pollute rivers and streams. Floodwater can carry disease-causing organisms and chemicals. Floodwater can also wash away landfills, toxic waste sites, and chemical dumps. Floodwater can also carry debris, including household items, tires, furniture, and appliances.
3. Impact of Flooding
The effects of flooding are widespread. Flooding affects everyone. People who live near rivers and lakes are at risk. Those who live along coastlines are also at risk. Children, elderly people, pregnant women, and those with heart conditions are especially vulnerable.
4. Relief Efforts
In order to prevent future flooding, Pakistan's government has launched several projects. One project involves building dams to hold back floodwaters. Dams help reduce the amount of water that flows downstream. Other projects involve building reservoirs and drainage systems. Reserves and drains collect rainwater runoff and direct it to proper locations.
5. Prevention Measures
Preventing future flooding requires reducing the amount of pollution entering our waterways. Pollution comes from factories, farms, and households. To reduce pollution, we need to stop burning fossil fuels. We also need to recycle materials and use them again instead of throwing them away.
