Plants are essential in our lives
Plants are an invaluable resource among the infinite creations of nature. The contribution of plants to the survival of humans on earth, the survival of animals, and even to maintaining the balance of the environment is undeniable. Plants not only provide green shade, they provide us with oxygen to breathe, provide food, provide medicine, and are beneficial at every level of our lives. Therefore, it can be said that plants are inextricably linked with our lives, without which life cannot be imagined. Below is a detailed discussion of the matter from various aspects.
1. Oxygen supplier
The most essential element for human and animal life is oxygen. Plants take in carbon dioxide through the process of photosynthesis and release oxygen. This oxygen is used in our breathing. If there were no plants on earth, life would have been destroyed due to lack of oxygen.
2. Main source of food
The main source of daily food supply of mankind is plants. We get rice, bread, vegetables, fruits, pulses, oil, etc. from plants. Not only humans, but also livestock depend on plants for their food. It is said that - "Plants are the mainstay of the food chain."
3. Medicinal properties
Since ancient times, people have relied on plants to cure various diseases. For example, plants like neem, tulsi, aloe vera, turmeric, ginger, garlic have antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Extracts of various herbal plants are also being used in today's modern pharmaceutical industry.
4. Maintaining environmental balance
Plants keep the environment balanced by absorbing carbon dioxide and increasing the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. In addition, plant roots hold the soil, preventing soil erosion and maintaining soil fertility. Forests reduce storms and natural disasters.
5. Economic Contribution
Our economy is largely dependent on plants and forest resources. The main raw materials for industries such as wood, bamboo, bamboo products, paper, rubber, cotton, jute, etc. come from plants. Agriculture, textiles, paper, construction and furniture industries are directly dependent on plants. Jute and bamboo have particularly enriched the economy of Bangladesh in rural life.
6. Beauty and mental peace
Green plants bring peace and tranquility to our minds. Being in an environment full of green gardens or trees reduces mental stress and keeps the mind healthy. Green trees in parks, gardens, and roadsides in the city not only add beauty, but also play an important role in protecting mental health.
7. Textiles and daily necessities
The main source of the clothes we use is the raw materials of cotton, jute or jute and silk. These are the gifts of plants. In addition, plants provide furniture, wood for building houses, bamboo, baskets, mats, oil, soap and other daily necessities.
8. Climate control
Plants play an important role in controlling the temperature of the earth. Forests produce rainfall and keep the climate cool. Due to urbanization and industrialization, carbon dioxide is increasing, which is the cause of global warming. Planting trees is the most effective solution to deal with this situation.
9. Biodiversity protection
Forests and flora are the habitats of many animals, birds, insects and microorganisms. Without plants, the habitats of all these animals would have been destroyed. As a result, the biodiversity of the earth would have been seriously threatened.
10. Source of fuel
People have been using wood for fuel since ancient times. Even today, wood, leaves, and dry branches are used as cooking fuel in rural life. In the modern era, fossil fuels are also mainly made from the remains of ancient plants.
11. Increase in soil fertility
Leaves, branches and fruits fall into the soil and form organic fertilizer. This increases soil fertility. Using this organic fertilizer in agriculture increases land productivity and yields good crops.
12. Religious and cultural importance
Humans also have a deep religious and cultural relationship with plants. For example, Tulsi is considered sacred in Hinduism, while dates and olives hold special importance in Islam. The role of flowers, leaves and trees in various festivals is immense.
What can happen in the absence of plants?
If there are no plants on earth, the very existence of mankind will disappear. People and animals will die due to lack of oxygen, famine will occur due to food shortages, the environment will lose its balance, the climate will become unstable and nature will eventually face destruction.
All in all, it can be said that plants are an essential part of our lives. They give us oxygen, provide food, provide medicine, enrich the economy and protect the environment. Therefore, it is our moral responsibility to love, preserve, and plant more trees. To build a healthy, beautiful, and livable world for future generations, we need to plant trees today and preserve existing trees.
