Humans are social creatures. There are some rules and regulations to maintain the order, morality and values of society. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has determined the institution of marriage as a legitimate and blessed path to keep family and social life in order. But when people ignore that legitimate path and lean towards illegal relationships, it leads to terrible consequences in personal, family, social and even spiritual aspects. Illegal relationships gradually push people to the brink of destruction. The matter is discussed in detail below.
1. Definition of illicit relationship
Illicit relationship refers to a relationship that is not socially, morally, legally and religiously permissible. Generally, intimacy or free association between a man and a woman outside of marriage is called illicit relationship. In Islam, it is called "zina", which is a serious sin. Not only Islam, but almost all religions and civilized societies have prohibited illicit relationships.
2. Damage to personal life
Due to illicit relationships, a person first faces danger in his mental and physical life.
Internal conflict and guilt: People in illicit relationships always live in fear. The fear of being caught or being ashamed in society makes them suffer from mental instability.
Physical damage: Such relationships often cause sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhea, etc.
Loss of dignity: No matter how high a person's rank, if the news of illicit relationships is revealed, his honor is ruined.
3. Damage to family life
Breaking trust: The relationship of mutual trust between husband and wife is the main strength in the family. But illegal relationships break that trust.
Separation and damage to children: Many people get involved in illegal relationships and end up breaking up their families. As a result, children are deprived of the affection of their guardians and are mentally broken.
Economic pressure: People often waste money to maintain illegal relationships, which can put the family in financial crisis.
4. Damage to social life
Social shame: When illegal relationships become known in society, not only the individual but also his family is stigmatized.
Reasons for increasing crime: Sometimes people get involved in crimes like murder, blackmailing or extortion to cover up illegal relationships.
Moral degradation of society: If such relationships are considered unimportant in society, then gradually the entire society will sink into moral decay.
5. Illegal relationships from a religious perspective
Islam strictly prohibits illegal relationships. The Quran says:
“Do not go near adultery. Indeed, it is an indecent act and an evil way.” (Surah Al-Isra: 32)
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “When a person commits adultery, his faith leaves him.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Therefore, from a religious perspective, it also brings serious destruction to people and causes severe punishment in the Hereafter.
6. Long-term effects of illicit relationships
Character destruction: If a person is involved in illicit relationships for a long time, his character is corrupted.
Mental illness: Depression or mental illness arises from guilt, fear and anxiety.
Social isolation: At some point, society and family reject him, resulting in loneliness.
7. Ways to prevent illicit relationships
Practice religious education: The fear of Allah and the responsibility of the Hereafter should be instilled in people’s hearts.
Healthy family life: If husband and wife are caring, sincere and loving towards each other, the tendency towards illicit relations decreases.
Awareness in society: It is important to make the youth aware through moral education, literature, culture and religious programs in the society.
Proper use of technology: In today's era, mobile and internet are major means of illicit relations. Therefore, proper use and control are necessary.
As attractive as illicit relations may seem, in reality they are a fire of destruction. They gradually exhaust a person in all aspects, mentally, physically, socially and religiously. It causes loss of personal honor, breaks up the family, corrupts the society and brings severe punishment in the hereafter. Therefore, people should refrain from illicit relations at any cost. Legal marriage is the only way to a happy, peaceful and dignified life.
