Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi Barkatuhu.
Dear friends, I hope you are all well, and I am also well and healthy with your prayers and the infinite mercy of Allah Taala. Today my topic of discussion will be some words about faith. Welcome and congratulations to you all in this post.
“Killing politicians is the same as killing democracy” – this statement carries a deep truth. Because democracy is not just a system of government; it is a combination of freedom of expression, political competition, the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power. Political assassinations strike at each of these foundations simultaneously. The issue is discussed in detail below—
1. Basic foundations of democracy and political leadership
In a democracy, political leaders are representatives of the people. The people express their opinions, expectations and aspirations through votes. Killing a political figure does not mean just killing a human being; Silencing the voices of millions of people associated with it. As a result, the representation of the people is undermined, and democratic practices are weakened.
2. Direct attack on freedom of expression
Democracy relies on dissent and debate. Political assassinations create a culture of fear. Those who hold opposing views are terrified and afraid to speak out. As a result, free thought and expression are restricted. When people keep their mouths shut out of fear, democracy becomes virtually ineffective.
3. Deterioration of the rule of law
In a democratic state, the law is above all. Political assassinations are often committed without regard for the law. If the murderers evade justice or seek political asylum, public trust is lost. If the rule of law is weak, the foundation of democracy becomes shaky.
4. Politicization of violence
Political assassinations push politics onto the path of violence. Then, instead of ideology, policies, and programs, the main thing is to show force. Weapons, not logic, become the main means of seizing power. In this situation, the idea of peaceful competition in democracy is destroyed.
5. Loss of credibility of elections and political processes
The assassination of political leaders makes the electoral environment terrible. Candidates suffer from insecurity, voters are afraid to go to the polls. As a result, elections are not fair and participatory. The main process of democracy—elections—loses credibility.
6. Long-term instability in the state and society
Political assassinations create revenge. One assassination after another—this vicious cycle destabilizes society. Investment, development, education, and social peace are disrupted. Democracy cannot be sustainable in an unstable society.
7. Deterioration of morality and human values
Democracy respects human dignity and the sanctity of life. Political assassinations destroy this moral foundation. When killing is considered legitimate to achieve political goals, tolerance and humanity disappear in society—which is against democracy.
8. Lessons from History
It can be seen in world history that where political killings have increased, dictatorships, military rule, or undemocratic forces have emerged. Because violence ultimately concentrates power in the hands of the strong, taking away the power of the people.
9. The Way Out
A few things are essential to prevent political killings—
Strict enforcement of the law and impartial trials
A culture of tolerance and dialogue among political parties
The active role of civil society and the media
Political education and the practice of democratic values
The killing of political figures does not only harm the individual or party; it kills the democratic spirit of the state. Real democracy can never survive through fear, violence, and instability. Therefore, taking a stand against political killings means protecting democracy, humanity, and the rights of future generations. To save democracy, politics must be freed from violence and brought back to the path of reason, tolerance, and law.
