Suffering and benefits on rainy days
One of the most beautiful gifts of nature is rain. The sound of falling raindrops, the scent of wet soil, the freshness of plants—all of which fill the mind with joy. However, just as rain brings joy and benefits, in some cases it also creates various kinds of suffering. Especially in our country, where there is seasonal rain, rainy days often become a cause of happiness as well as suffering. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss both the benefits and suffering on rainy days.
Benefits of rainy days
1. Freshness of nature
On rainy days, dust and dirt are washed away, and plants regain their life. It is pleasant to breathe in a dust-free environment, the air is fresh.
2. Blessing for agriculture
Rain is very important in an agricultural country. When there is sufficient rain at the right time, all types of crops including rice, wheat, corn, and pulses grow well. Irrigation costs are also reduced.
3. Filling of groundwater reserves
Rainwater penetrates the soil and increases the groundwater level. This ensures sufficient water in wells, tube wells, and tubewells.
4. Reduction in temperature
When it rains after a hot summer, the temperature drops and the weather cools down. This reduces heat-related illnesses and brings relief.
5. Cleanliness of the atmosphere
Rain reduces dust, smoke, and allergens in the air. As a result, people suffering from respiratory problems, asthma, or allergies get relief.
6. Filling of rivers, canals, and reservoirs
Water from rivers, canals, and reservoirs is essential for everything: fish farming, navigation, and irrigation systems. These are filled with rain, which helps maintain biodiversity.
7. Increase in natural beauty
On rainy days, village fields, rivers, mountains, forests - everything becomes beautiful. The mind becomes better and peace of mind comes.
8. Help in electricity generation
Sufficient water is required in dams for hydroelectric power generation, which is filled through rain. As a result, electricity generation is easy.
The suffering of rainy days
1. Waterlogging
Since the drainage system in many of our cities is not good, water accumulates on the roads during rain. This causes problems in vehicle movement, people get wet and the risk of accidents increases.
2. Increase in traffic congestion
On rainy days, mud and water accumulate on the roads, vehicles move slowly, and often stop. As a result, time is wasted and people's suffering increases.
3. Household problems
Rainwater enters houses with a mud house or a weak roof. Clothes cannot be dried, the house becomes humid, which is harmful to health.
4. Increase in diseases
The number of mosquitoes and insects increases during and after rainy days. This results in the spread of diseases such as dengue, malaria, typhoid, diarrhea, etc.
5. Disruption to work
Agricultural work, construction work or any work outside is disrupted on rainy days. Many people cannot go to work, and students also have difficulty reaching school.
6. Power outage
When it rains with storms or lightning, power goes out in many areas, which can last for a long time.
7. River erosion and flooding
Excessive rainfall can cause river water to rise and cause erosion or flooding, which is dangerous for human life and property.
8. Car and motorcycle accidents
Rain makes roads slippery, reduces visibility. This increases the chances of accidents.
Balance of benefits and harms
Rain is essential for nature. Without rain, it is not possible to sustain agriculture, the environment and biodiversity. However, due to mismanagement, lack of urban planning, and drainage problems, the benefits of rain often turn into suffering. Therefore, to make rainy days joyful and beneficial—
Adequate drainage systems must be developed in the city.
Canals and berms must be cleared of encroachment to prevent waterlogging.
Arrangements must be made to conserve rainwater.
People must be health conscious.
Roads and transportation systems must be made rain-friendly.
Rain is a unique gift of nature, which sustains our lives. Just as it brings smiles to the faces of farmers, mismanagement also puts a mark of suffering on the faces of many. Therefore, we should make the most of the benefits of rain and reduce the suffering caused by it. Through proper planning, awareness, and infrastructural development, we can make rainy days joyful, safe, and beneficial.
