The importance of beauty and cleanliness in human life is eternal. A unique expression of this sense of beauty is fragrance or perfume. Fragrance is deeply connected with human mentality, taste, personality and social behavior. Perfume is not only a means of eliminating body odor; rather, it is also considered a symbol of human taste, civilization and culture. The history of perfume is very ancient, with its roots dating back to the beginning of human civilization.

Origin and history of perfume

The word perfume comes from the Latin word Per Fumum, which means “through smoke”. In ancient times, people used the smoke of leaves, flowers, wood and resins of various aromatic plants to burn. They used this smoke for religious rituals, worship and to please the gods. The use of perfume was very important in Egyptian civilization. The pharaohs considered fragrance sacred and used various aromatic oils to preserve the dead.

The use of aromatic oils and perfumes was widespread in ancient India, Mesopotamia and China. The Arab civilization brought about a revolutionary change in the production of perfumes. They discovered improved methods of extracting aromatic oils from flowers, spices and wood. Later, the perfume industry developed in Europe and in the modern era it has become a large commercial industry.

How perfume is made

Perfume is usually made from three main ingredients—

1. Fragrance oils: flowers, fruits, spices, wood or artificial fragrances.

2. Alcohol or carrier liquid: which dissolves the fragrance and helps it spread on the skin.

3. Fixative: Which makes the fragrance last longer.

Perfumes usually have three layers—

Top note: The first scent that is found, short-lived.

Middle note: The main scent, which is revealed after a while.

Base note: The long-lasting scent, which carries the true identity of the perfume.

Benefits of perfume

Perfume is not only used to cover body odor; its benefits are multifaceted.

1. Expression of personality: A person's taste and personality are largely expressed through the fragrance he uses.

2. Confidence building: A beautiful smell gives mental peace and increases confidence.

3. Mental peace: Some fragrances such as lavender or rose reduce stress.

4. Social acceptance: A clean and fragrant person is easily accepted in society.

5. Role in worship and culture: Special importance has been given to cleanliness and fragrance in Islam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) loved perfume.

Who can use perfume

In general, everyone can use perfume—men, women, young, old—everyone. However, it is important to keep some things in mind.

Those who socialize

Those who attend work or events

Those who want peace of mind and confidence

Especially, perfume is more suitable for men and light fragrances for women.

Who should refrain from using perfume

Although everyone can use perfume, caution is necessary in some cases—

1. If you have allergies or skin problems: Some people have sensitive skin, which can cause rashes or itching when using perfume.

2. Excessive use: Excessive fragrance can be annoying to others.

3. Religious restrictions: In Islam, excessive use of fragrance outside is discouraged for women, so as not to create unwanted attraction.

4. For children: Chemical-containing perfumes can be harmful because children's skin is soft.

Perfume is an important part of human civilization. It is not only external beauty, but also a reflection of human thoughts, tastes and culture. When used correctly and in moderation, perfume increases people's confidence, makes the personality attractive and has a positive impact on society. However, excessive or incorrect use can also cause harm. Therefore, the best way is to use perfume consciously, understanding the need and within the limits of decency.
