Killing a person or killing a person is considered a great sin and a serious crime in Islam. It is not only a crime against an individual, but a crime against the entire human society. The person who commits this sin will be severely punished in the hereafter and will be deprived of Paradise.

1. The horror of killing a person and the reason why it is a great sin:
Islam views human life as a very valuable and sacred trust. Killing someone without any legitimate reason is strictly prohibited in the Quran and Hadith.
According to the Quran:
Killing the entire human race: Allah Almighty says, "Whoever kills a person, except for murder or for spreading corruption in the land, it is as if he has killed the entire human race. And whoever saves the life of one person, it is as if he has saved the life of the entire human race." (Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:32) This verse makes it clear that Islam views killing an innocent person as an injustice to all of humanity.
Announcement of severe punishment: Regarding the punishment for killing a believer intentionally, Allah says, "And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his punishment is Hell, to abide therein forever. Allah will be angry with him and curse him and has prepared for him a great punishment." (Surah An-Nisa, 4:93) This verse mentions five punishments:
1. The Fire of Hell (eternal).
2. The Wrath of Allah.
3. Allah's curse.
4. Great punishment.
5. Remaining in it forever (the fact that it remains forever, according to the interpretation, indicates the seriousness of the sin, unless one repents or receives Allah's forgiveness).
Fitnah is more serious than killing: "Fitnah (riot, chaos, anarchy) is a greater sin than killing." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:191). The chaos that is created in society as a result of unjust killing is even more serious.
According to the Hadith:
The greatest major sin: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned unjust killing as the next greatest major sin after shirk. He said, "The greatest major sins are: associating partners with Allah, then killing a person, then disobeying one's parents..." (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim).
Disturbance of religious peace: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "A true believer is completely at peace with his religion until he commits an unlawful killing." (Sahih Bukhari) That is, unlawful killing is the biggest threat to the peace and security of a believer's religious life.
More hateful than destroying the world: It is said in the hadith, "Killing a person is more hateful to Allah than destroying the world." (Tirmidhi)
The first judgment on the Day of Judgment: On the Day of Judgment, Allah will first take account of blood. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "The first judgment among people on the Day of Judgment will be about blood (related to murder)." (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim)
2. Reasons for not being able to enter Paradise:
Since killing a person is a major sin, the person who commits this sin (if he does not repent) will be deprived of the right to enter Paradise or will be delayed.
The threat of eternal Hell: According to the commentary of Surah An-Nisa' verse 93, the punishment of eternal Hell is mentioned for the one who intentionally kills a believer. Although according to the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'at, a person who commits any major sin other than shirk (if he dies as a believer) will not remain in Hell forever. However, the stern warning of this verse indicates that the punishment for this sin will be long and severe, unless Allah forgives him out of His mercy.
Non-acceptance of worship: In a hadith narrated by Ubadah ibn al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Whoever kills a believer intentionally and is pleased with his killing, Allah will not accept any of his obligatory or voluntary worship." (Sahih Bukhari, 4221) The fact that acts of worship are not accepted does not mean that they are completely invalid, rather, the reward and blessings are taken away from them and it becomes a major obstacle on the way to Paradise.
Being deprived of the intercession of the Prophet: Some hadiths mention that some sinners can be deprived of the intercession (recommendation) of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), one of which is unlawful killing.
Other grave sins with serious consequences: Among the other major sins in Islam that prevent one from entering Paradise immediately or without reckoning is killing a person. For example - polytheists, severing ties of kinship, being arrogant, intoxicants, usury, etc. Killing a person is so serious that its judgment will begin directly on the Day of Judgment.
3. Repentance and forgiveness:
Although killing a person is a major sin, one should not despair of the mercy of Allah Almighty.
Allah's Forgiveness: Allah Almighty has the power to forgive any sin except shirk. He says, "Indeed, Allah does not forgive the sin of associating partners with Him, but He forgives to whom He wills any sin other than that." (Surah An-Nisa, 4:48). So if the murderer sincerely repents, he should hope that Allah can forgive him.
Conditions of Forgiveness: There are two conditions for repentance in the case of killing a human being:
1. Allah's right: to be ashamed of the sin, to resolve not to do such a thing in the future, and to seek Allah's forgiveness.
2. The servant's right (compensation): to seek forgiveness from the heirs of the killed person. If they forgive, the punishment may be reduced. If they do not forgive, the murderer may have to pay the death penalty (qisas) or blood money (dyat)If the punishment is effective in this life, then there will be no further punishment for that sin in the Hereafter. If it is not effective, then the rights of the deceased will have to be fulfilled on the Day of Judgment.
Killing a person is undoubtedly a great sin and its consequences are very terrible. In the eyes of Islam, killing a person is like killing the entire human society. The Holy Quran has warned of eternal hell, Allah's wrath and curse for this. The sinner in this sin will lose the initial opportunity to enter Paradise and will face severe punishment.
