Children will not become human beings if they are addicted to mobile phones
The present era is the era of information technology. Mobile phones have made people's lives easier, communication has become more dynamic and the path to acquiring knowledge has become more open. But on the one hand, this benefit of technology is a blessing, on the other hand, the misuse of mobile phones has become a cause of serious harm, especially among children and adolescents. Experts have repeatedly warned that if a child becomes addicted to mobile phones, his natural development is disrupted, his character formation becomes weak and he may deviate from the main path of growing up as a complete human being. That is, a child who is overly dependent on mobile phones cannot develop into a “human being” in the future—in the mental, moral, social, and educational sense.
Now let’s explain this issue from different angles.
1. Mobile addiction: Serious impact on the development of a child’s brain
A child’s brain develops rapidly between the ages of 0 and 18. During this time, he learns through real-world experiences, social interactions, sports, studies, and nature observation. But if a child spends most of his time on his mobile phone, then—
● Attention decreases
Excessive screen time reduces a child’s attention span. Normal studies, reading books, or listening to a teacher—cannot sustain attention.
● Memory weakens
Changing videos, changing levels in games, and changing scenes quickly—all these make the child’s brain addicted to “fast dopamine.” As a result, slow tasks in real life annoy him and his memory weakens.
● Creativity is destroyed
A child who has no toys, no drawings, no stories—only a mobile—loses the ability to think. Imagination, which is the greatest capital in future life, is destroyed.
2. Negative impact on character formation
Not only education, but also a child needs to develop as a “human being”—
Morals
Patience
Sense of responsibility
Courtesy
Sociality
Humanity
But mobile addiction gradually destroys all these qualities.
● Impatience increases
The instant joy of mobile games or videos makes the child addicted to “instant gratification”. As a result, he becomes impatient and cannot wait.
● Anger, restlessness and aggressive behavior
Fights, wars, attacks in games—these are reflected in the child’s behavior. Many children get angry at the slightest word, break things, and become rude.
● Real life responsibility is not developed
When mobile is the main entertainment, then homework, studies, religious practices—none of them are important.
3. Disruption in sociality and communication skills
For a child to become a human being, he must learn to blend in with society. This is the means of learning—
Family
Friends
Playground
School
Social events
But children addicted to mobile tend to reduce their participation in these.
● Become lonely
Mobiles trap children in an artificial world. Spending time with real life friends decreases. Gradually, they become socially isolated.
● Communication skills are not developed
To become a human being, a child needs to develop the ability to speak, explain, reason, and listen. But mobile children lose these skills.
● Empathy decreases
If they cannot understand the suffering, happiness, and joy of real people—these things, a child cannot develop a sense of humanity. Mobile addiction destroys this sense.
4. Disruption in academic life
Education is the key to becoming a human being. But mobile addiction—
Inattention in lessons
Homework evasion
Poor results in exams
Disinterest in learning
These are the things that create it.
● The brain wants quick stimulation like games
Reading books is slow—the child's brain cannot adapt to this.
● Test results are bad
A child whose study time is reduced due to mobile phones, his results naturally start to deteriorate.
● Future goals are destroyed
The attention, hard work, and discipline that are needed to become a doctor, engineer, teacher, or businessman—are destroyed due to mobile addiction.
5. Harmful effects on physical health
Mobile phones are not only harmful mentally, but also physically.
Eye damage
Headaches
Sleep problems
Irregular eating and drinking
Obesity
Neck and shoulder pain
These are common problems of children addicted to mobile phones. If physical health is damaged, the future is also weakened.
6. Lack of religious and moral education
Religious education is very important in Bangladeshi society to develop a person as a human being. Children addicted to mobile phones—
Do not pray
Disinterested in reading the Quran
Do not learn morality
High risk of going astray during adolescence
If mobile phones keep a child away from religious, moral and ideological education, then his "being a human being" is questionable.
7. Family relationships weaken
If a child spends more time in front of a mobile phone—
Respect for parents decreases
Talking to family decreases
Does not learn to take family responsibilities
Opportunities to learn manners decrease
A child who does not value family cannot value society properly in the future.
8. Risks in future life
Mobile addiction creates—
Young people without sense of responsibility
Unwillingness to work
Falling behind in the competition of life
Easily suffering from depression
Failure in job or business
As a result, he cannot be a successful person in society.
9. Solution: How to protect children from mobile addiction
● Do not give mobile phones to children or give them very limited
Mobile use for children aged 0–12 years
Moderation is very important.
● Provide alternative entertainment
Books
Sports
Storytelling
Outdoor games
Creative work
These are helpful in diverting their attention from mobile phones.
● Increase family time
Family discussions, games, stories—these will bring children's attention from technology to people.
● Provide religious and moral education
Make rules and regulations
For example—
No mobile phone for more than 1 hour a day
No mobile phone at the meal table
No mobile phone before sleeping
● Parents should also use mobile phones less
Because children imitate.
Whether a child will become a human being or not—it depends on the correct construction of his childhood. Mobile addiction is destroying that construction.
If a child is trapped in mobile addiction, his character, mental development, education, morality—everything becomes abnormal. Such a child becomes a burden, not an asset, for the country and society in the future.
So parents should be aware now and keep their children away from mobile phone misuse and raise them as real human beings.
Because—
“The way a child grows up today, the same way he will be in the future.”
