Dear friends,

I hope you are all well with the infinite mercy of Allah Almighty. I am also well and healthy to accept your prayers and the infinite mercy of Allah Almighty.

In the eyes of Islam, unjustly taking or robbing the property of others is not only a social crime, but it is a very heinous and terrible grave sin. Islam is a religion of peace, security and protecting the rights of others. Here, the security of life and property has been given equal importance as worship.

Robbery: A terrible grave sin and social disease

In Islamic law, human blood, honor and property have been declared sacred and inviolable. In the Farewell Hajj sermon, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Your blood, your wealth and your honor are as sacred as this day, this month and this city (i.e., it is forbidden for anyone to interfere with anyone)." (Sahih Bukhari). Robbery is a gross violation of this sacred law.

1. Reasons why robbery is a major sin

A major sin is a sin for which Allah Almighty has warned of severe punishment or cursed. Some of the reasons why robbery is a major sin are given below:

Oppression or oppression: Robbery is direct oppression. Allah Almighty says, "Beware! The curse of Allah is on the wrongdoers." (Surah Hud, verse: 18).

Intimidation: A believer should not intimidate another believer. A robber creates fear in the minds of people by threatening them with weapons or force, which is strictly prohibited in Islam.

Haram Eating: Wealth acquired through theft is completely haram. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "A body raised on haram food will not enter Paradise." (Mishkat).

2. The Declaration of the Holy Quran

The Quran states that the punishment for those who create chaos in society and take away people's wealth is very severe. Allah Almighty says:

"The punishment for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and spread mischief in the land is that they will be killed or crucified or their hands and feet will be cut off from opposite sides or they will be exiled from the land. That is a disgrace for them in this world and a severe punishment for them in the Hereafter." (Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse: 33).

According to the commentators, theft and robbery are included in this 'mischief' or mischief.

3. The consequences of a robber in the light of the Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used very harsh language regarding the robber.

Expulsion from the Ummah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "He who takes up arms against us (Muslims) is not from us. And he who deceives us is not from us." (Sahih Muslim).

Lack of Faith: When a person robs or steals, he does not have true faith. It has been mentioned in the Hadith that when a robber plunders, he is not in a state of faith.

4. Social and Psychological Impact of Robbery

Robbery is not only a personal loss, it destroys society:

Insecurity: People are afraid to leave their homes, which deprives them of civil rights.

Economic stagnation: Traders are afraid to transport goods, which has a negative impact on the country's economy.

Mental trauma: The victim of robbery suffers from long-term mental anguish.

5. Islamic Penal Code (Hudud)

In Islamic law, robbery or robbery is called 'hirabah'. Islam has made the strictest punishment for it to keep the society safe. If someone steals property at gunpoint, the judge prescribed by Sharia can give a severe punishment like death penalty or amputation depending on the type of crime. The purpose of this severity is so that no one else dares to do such a thing and the common people can sleep in peace.

6. Repentance and Remedy

If the robber wants to repent, he must fulfill two conditions:

Ask forgiveness from Allah: He must be ashamed and ask forgiveness from Allah and must firmly resolve not to do this again.

Remedy for loss of rights: The person whose property has been robbed must return that property or its equivalent value. If the person cannot be found, then charity should be given in his name. But if you only say 'repentance' without returning the property, this sin will not be forgiven.

Robbery is a social curse and a cause of severe punishment in the hereafter. A true Muslim can never unjustly reach out to the property of another. To establish peace in society, every person must attain the fear of Allah (taqwa) and remember the accountability in the hereafter.
