Friday is a day of achieving righteousness

In Islam, Friday is given special importance and dignity. Among the seven days of the week, Friday is the best day. This day has been called the "Day of Eid", "The best day of achieving righteousness", and "The Day of Acceptance of Prayer". Allah Almighty and the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have declared Friday to be very virtuous and blessed.

The Status of Friday in the Quran and Hadith

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

"O you who have believed! When the call is made for prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you, if you only knew."

— (Surah Jumu'ah: 9)

This verse shows that Friday is not just a day for prayer, but a day of worship. It is instructed to fill this day with remembrance of Allah, worship, and righteous deeds.

Special virtues of Friday

1. The day of the weekly Eid

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) described Friday as the "Eid of the week."

"This day (Friday) is the weekly Eid."

— (Ibn Majah)

Like Eid, this day is instructed to be clean, wear good clothes, use perfume, take a bath, and perform special deeds.

2. Special time for acceptance of prayers

It is mentioned in the hadith:

"There is a moment on Friday when if a Muslim servant asks Allah for something at that time, Allah will grant it to him."

— (Bukhari and Muslim)

Many scholars say that this time is from after Asr until Maghrib. Therefore, supplication, seeking forgiveness, and seeking forgiveness from Allah should be made during this time.

3. A golden opportunity for forgiveness of sins

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Whoever performs ablution properly, then goes to the Friday prayer, listens attentively to the sermon, and remains silent, his sins from the previous Friday to the current Friday, and an additional three days, will be forgiven."

— (Muslim)

It is clear from this that worshipping on Friday will forgive the minor sins of a week.

Important deeds on Friday for achieving righteousness

1. Bathing and maintaining cleanliness

It is Sunnah to bathe after Fajr on Friday. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"It is obligatory upon every adult to bathe on Friday."

— (Bukhari and Muslim)

Bathing cleanses the body, brings peace of mind, and increases attention to worship.

2. Wearing good clothes and using perfume

Friday is like Eid, so it is a good deed to wear good clothes and use perfume on this day.

3. Going to Friday prayer early

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"Whoever goes to Friday prayer in the first hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a camel. If he goes to the second hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a cow. If he goes to the third hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a sheep."

— (Bukhari and Muslim)

This shows that going to the mosque early is more rewarding.

4. Reciting Surah Kahf

There is a special virtue in reciting Surah Kahf on Friday. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"Whoever recites Surah Kahf on Friday, light will spread from his feet to his head and that light will remain until the next Friday."

— (Hakim)

5. Reciting Durood Shareef

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"Recite Durood more on Friday, because the Durood of my Ummah reaches me."

— (Abu Dawud)

Reciting Durood more on Friday is a great act of worship and a means of achieving virtue.

6. Making more supplications and seeking forgiveness

On this day, especially after Asr until Maghrib, supplications are more likely to be accepted, so one should pray more for oneself and others.

The educational aspect of Friday

Friday is not only a day of prayer for us, it is a special opportunity for self-purification, repentance, and good deeds. This day gives us a golden opportunity to remove our mistakes, negligence, and sins of the entire week.

Time for self-criticism

This day is the best time to review our deeds. Did we do enough good deeds last week? Did we wrong anyone? Friday can be a time for self-criticism to correct ourselves.

Good behavior with family and society

This day can also be an opportunity to spend time with family and relatives, inquire about their welfare, and stand by the poor and suffering.

Friday is a wonderful blessing and a day full of virtues, which is a great gift for Muslims. Those who worship sincerely on this day, maintain purity, and devote themselves to the remembrance of Allah, surely receive endless goodness from Allah. Therefore, we should take the virtues and deeds of Friday seriously and utilize this day to its fullest extent to achieve goodness.
