Mental depression causes us a lot of harm

In human life, happiness and sorrow, joy and pain, success and failure are intertwined. However, due to the long-term effects of sadness and failure, the uncertainty of life and various types of mental stress, many times a person becomes a victim of mental depression. Depression is not just a state of mind, but it is a serious mental health problem, which has a profound impact on people's thoughts, feelings, behavior and daily life. If depression is neglected for a long time, it can cause serious damage to both physical and mental aspects.

Definition of Depression

Depression is a mental state in which a person feels deeply sad, hopeless, and unmotivated and loses interest in life. It is not a normal sadness that lasts for a few hours or a few days; rather, it lasts for a long time and affects almost all aspects of a person's life.

Main causes of depression

There can be multiple reasons behind depression—

Personal problems: loss of a loved one, failure in love, divorce, family conflict, etc.

Financial crisis: long-term unemployment, debt or business losses.

Physical illness: long-term illness, physical disability, consequences of an accident.

Social isolation: loneliness, lack of support from friends and family.

Trauma: childhood abuse, humiliation, neglect or major accidents.

Genetic factors: The risk is higher if there is a history of depression in the family.

Harmful effects of depression

1. Destroys mental energy

A depressed person always feels weak, helpless and unsuccessful. Interest in life decreases and the ability to think positively is lost.

2. Deterioration of physical health

Mental depression disrupts the hormonal balance in the body. This can cause problems such as insomnia, headaches, digestive problems, weight gain or loss, high blood pressure, etc.

3. Decreased performance

Those who suffer from depression cannot concentrate on work, fail to make the right decisions, and the quality of work deteriorates. As a result, the possibility of losing a job or losing business increases.

4. Destroys social relationships

Depressed people often do not want to socialize with people, which weakens relationships with friends and family. This further increases loneliness.

5. Tendency to risky behavior

Many people suffering from deep depression can take dangerous paths such as drug addiction, excessive drinking, or suicide.

6. Impact on educational life

If a student is affected by depression, his interest in studies decreases, his results in exams are poor and his future career is affected.

7. Decreased creativity

Mental depression narrows the train of thought of a person, resulting in a decrease in interest in new ideas or creative work.

1. Get emotional support

It is very important to openly discuss your problems with family, friends or close people. Depression increases if you are alone, so it is important to maintain relationships.

2. Get professional help

Taking advice from a psychiatrist or counselor is one of the most effective ways to cure depression. Therapy or medication can be taken if necessary.

3. Physical exercise and exercise

Regular walking, running or yoga increases the release of endorphins in the brain, which improves the state of mind.

4. Eat nutritious food

Fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts and enough water take care of the body as well as the mind. It is better to avoid excess sugar and junk food.

5. Enough sleep

7-8 hours of good sleep every day is essential for mental stability.

6. Positive thinking practice

Focusing on positive aspects instead of negative thoughts, practicing gratitude every day is beneficial for mental health.

7. Doing hobbies

Listening to music, reading books, gardening, painting or traveling - these hobbies help reduce mental stress.
