2019 was a great year for Abahani in international football. In Asian club football, the best result in their history was achieved by the blue-yellow camps. India beat Minerva Punjab Club to reach the inter-regional semi-finals of the AFC Cup.
Abahani did not speak after leaving North Korea's April Twenty Five Club in the semi-final round. In the first leg at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka, they also pulled off an impressive 4-3 win. Although they went to the 'unknown' North Korea and lost 2-0. They did not put up a bad fight that day in Pyongyang against a strong team. As the second club in Bangladesh after Mohammedan, Abahani's campaign in the semi-final round of the Asian level club football competition must be remembered.

Abahani first played in Asian level club competition in 1985. It was the highest level club competition in Asia. What is today the AFC Champions League, 38 years ago was the Asian Club Cup Championship. Abahani played against Club Valencia of Maldives, East Bengal of India, Sanders Club of Sri Lanka, Neurode Club of Nepal and PI of Pakistan in their group in the Colombo qualifiers. Despite beating Valencia 8–1, Sanders 4–1, PIA 3–0 and Neurode 2–1, Abahani did not make it to the finals. Lost 1–0 to East Bengal.
Abahani first got an opportunity to play in the Asian level club competition in 1991 in the Abahani Asian Cup Winners Cup. It was another Asian club competition tournament. Which can be matched with the current AFC Cup. Seber Abahani's opponents on a home and away basis were East Bengal of India. After a goalless draw in the home match in Dhaka, Abahani lost 1–0 in the away match in Kolkata. Abahani then played in the Asian Cup Winners Cup in 1997. Abahani's opponents in the first round of the East Asian region were Maldives' Old Benedictine Club. After beating them 5-0 in the first leg in Dhaka, Abahani won 3-0 in Male. In the second round, Abahani played against China's Beijing Guoyuan Club. Abahani lost the away match in Beijing 2–0. Abahani lost 1-0 in Dhaka's home match.

Abahani did not participate in any Asian level competition for the next decade. In 2008, Abahani participated in the AFC Presidents Cup. The Champions League, along with the AFC Cup, was introduced by the apex body of Asian football as the third club competition at the time. Abahani made his first appearance in the Presidents Cup in 2008 against Regar Tadaj Club of Tajikistan, Nepal Police and Wapda of Pakistan. After a 4-0 thrashing by Nepal Police, Abahani Regar lost 2-1 to Tadaj. Pakistan's Wapda was defeated 1-0 by Blue and Yellow.
