Having Pride In Yourself Even Though You Are Poor

Children from low income families often face problems and struggles because of their low socioeconomic status. It is important for children to be proud of who they are no matter their economic status. At school, kids can be bullies and cruel to children from poor families. Teachers need to be supportive to these children and have to work hard to protect the innocent from bullying. Mrs. Ani was a beloved teacher and worked hard to educate her students. Lately, Mrs. Ani had been interested in her student Jhon. She knew Jhon was a scavenger and worked along side his father searching the garbage dumps for materials they could sell for money to support their family. Mrs. Ani found Jhon to be a hard working child but was concerned about him. When Jhon was at school he never acted ashamed of himself or his life. The teacher knew the life of a scavenger was hard. Scavengers were poor and had little money. They were looked down upon by society. One day after school, Mrs. Ani approached Jhon to talk to him. “If there are difficulties in life you may ask me for help Jhon,” said Mrs. Ani. Jhon smiled at her. It was the heartfelt smile of a scavenger living below the poverty line who was touched by the kindness of another person. Mrs. Ani told Jhon, “I like seeing you spend time with your friends here at school. I know some of the children tease you. Always know if any friends insult you, report it to me and I will take care of the problem.” Jhon was happy to hear his teacher supporting him. Because he was from a poor family, sometimes others said mean things to him. Jhon never had new shoes, bags, or clothes like the other children. His belongings were from donations others made to his family. Even though Jhon came from a poor family, he was never sorry for his status. He had loving parents and a good life. He had a wonderful teacher and the money his father made scavenging paid for him to go to school. Life is full of trials and challenges. Jhon knew his struggles were something he had to accept. Positive thoughts was what Jhon wanted to have about life. His education, wonderful teachers, and parents helped give him the love and motivation he needed to succeed. He was never ashamed of his family. He knew his father worked hard to take care of him and appreciated the education he received from money earned from of his father's hard work. Jhon had a great support system. He had loving parents and a caring teacher. When children have positive role models who are supportive and encouraging, children do better in school and have a better outlook on life. It is important for kids to feel pride in themselves and their hard work. Even though a person lives below the poverty line, that doesn't mean they should be ridiculed or bullied. Hard work is important and something that children should be proud of no matter what others may say.
