Natural pollination in male and female plants, can occur with the same amount between the two plants. However, if done with help, one male plant can pollinate up to 100 female plants. The male plant, which is a pollinator, allows farmers to use their resources to produce more fruit on female plants.  Some farmers do not even maintain male plants, which are male flowers, to provide them in the local market during pollination. Manual pollination is done by skilled workers using the help of stairs to climb into the trees. In order to get quality fruit to be marketed, bunches of dates must be thinned and wrapped or closed before ripe so that the fruit can grow to be larger and protected from weather and pests, such as birds.
