Ragunan Zoo is the first zoo in Indonesia. Located in the Sunday market, in this Ragunan, many types of animals are kept, such as tigers, elephants, camels, snakes, pandas, deer and various other wild animals. The zoo was founded in 1864 with the name "Planten En Dierentuin" which means "Plants and Zoos."
Located on 10 hectares of land in the Cikini area, Menteng, Central Jakarta, which was a gift from Raden Saleh. At that time, Planten En Dierentuin was managed by the Association for Loving Flora and Fauna of Batavia who were members of the Cultural Vereniging Planten en Dierentuin at Batavia. And this place is an old place, whereas now it is different.
In 1949, the name of the Planten En Dierentuin was changed to Cikini Zoo and in 1961 it was moved to the Ragunan area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta in 1964.
After that, the DKI Jakarta Government granted a land area of 30 hectares which became the home for this zoo. The Governor of DKI Jakarta Ali Sadikin inaugurated the Ragunan Wildlife Park on June 22, 1966. And it has lasted until now.
