ammonium nitrate (explosives), one of the raw materials for stone extraction, was shut down on Saturday evening due to the crisis. It is not likely to be launched any time soon. The government will lose more than 50 crore rupees per month. And the mega projects under construction of the country will lose momentum in the stone crisis.
Complaints of the concerned people: The commission of a strong syndicate led by a general manager of Madhyapara Granite Mining Company Limited (MGMCL) did not trade in the last 6 months due to mysterious reasons. Whose compensation has to be paid to the entire energy sector. In the end, under the leadership of Petrobangla, some explosives were hastily imported but it will take at least 20 days for them to reach the country.
The German Trust Consortium (GTC), a Belarusian contractor, is currently extracting stones from the Madhyapara Granite Mining Company mine. According to the agreement, MGMCL will provide all machineries, equipment and explosives for stone extraction. GTC will extract an average of 5,200 tons of stone per day. But it has been alleged that this syndicate of MGMCL often stops the supply of necessary machineries and equipment if the commission is not given as per the demand. Earlier also, the syndicate did not provide the required equipment and decisions as per the demand and the contractor had been sitting idle for more than 11 months. As a result, it was not possible to extract more than Tk 800 crore.
Nazmul Ahsan, chairman of Bangladesh Oil Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) and chairman of MGMCL's board of directors, told the media that mining activities would be halted due to lack of supply of ammonium nitrate, one of the raw materials for stone production. He said the recent explosion at a warehouse of ammonium nitride in Beirut had caused a crisis in the raw material market. In addition, the crisis is exacerbated by the Coronavirus war and the Ukraine war. He added that the explosives were not found despite repeated calls for tenders. However, on March 10, a work order was issued for a consignment of 250 tons. The shipment will come from Thailand. The shipment has already been loaded on the ship. It is expected to arrive in the country in the next two weeks. The mine will run for 5-6 months with 250 tons of explosives.
