The best quality higher education institutions in Bangladesh are located in different big cities. But about 80 percent of the people in Bangladesh live in villages. As a result, rural students who are interested in higher education must go from home to the city. Most of these good quality higher education institutions in Bangladesh do not have enough dormitory seats for students. As a result, most of these students from the villages have to continue their education from the messes located in the vicinity of these educational institutions. In the midst of thousands of problems and inadequate facilities in these messes, these good students have to continue their struggle for higher education. One of the biggest problems with these messes is the food problem. The food cooked in these messes is of very low quality and to cook in unhealthy environments the students in these messes sometimes get very sick after eating these foods for cooking in unhealthy environment. Not only is the mess authority responsible for this food problem, the messes have a budget for daily meals that is so small that it is almost impossible to provide improved and healthy food.

 

 

বাংলাদেশের ভালো মানের উচ্চ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো বিভিন্ন বড় বড় শহরে অবস্থিত। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের শতকরা প্রায় 80 শতাংশ মানুষ গ্রামে বাস করে। ফলে গ্রামের যেসব স্টুডেন্ট উচ্চশিক্ষার জন্য আগ্রহী তাদেরকে বাড়ি থেকে অবশ্যই শহরে যেতে হয়। বাংলাদেশের এসব ভালো মানের উচ্চ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর অধিকাংশ গুলোতেই ছাত্র-ছাত্রী বসবাস করার জন্য ছাত্রাবাসে পর্যাপ্ত পরিমাণ আসন নেই। ফলে গ্রাম থেকে আসা এসব অধিকাংশ ছাত্রছাত্রীকেই এসব শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর আশেপাশে অবস্থিত মেসে থেকে লেখাপড়া চালিয়ে যেতে হয়। এসব মেসগুলোর হাজার রকমের সমস্যা এবং অপ্রতুল সুযোগ-সুবিধার মধ্যেই এসব ভালো ভালো স্টুডেন্টকে উচ্চশিক্ষা লাভের জন্য সংগ্রাম চালিয়ে যেতে হয়। এসব মেসগুলো সবথেকে বড় সমস্যা গুলোর একটি হলো খাবারের সমস্যা। এসব মেসে রান্না করা খাবার গুলো খুবই নিম্নমানের হয় এবং অস্বাস্থ্যকর পরিবেশে রান্না করার জন্য এসব খাবার খেয়ে মেসে অবস্থিত ছাত্র-ছাত্রী গুলো মাঝে মাঝেই খুবই বেশি অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়ে। খাবারের এই সমস্যার জন্য শুধু যে মেস কর্তৃপক্ষ দায়ী তেমন না, মেসগুলোতে প্রতিদিনের খাবারের জন্য বাজেটের পরিমাণ থাকে খুবই কম যেই পরিমাণ টাকা দিয়ে আসলে উন্নত এবং স্বাস্থ্যসম্মত খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করা প্রায় অসম্ভব।

 

 

 

 

Since the quality of the food is not very good every day and it is very difficult to eat the food, so sometimes the students at the mess all together arrange some good food with some extra money. In every mess, good food is arranged for two to three days almost every month by raising some extra amount of money.

 

যেহেতু প্রতিদিনের খাবারের মান খুব একটা ভালো হয় না এবং খাবারগুলো খাওয়া খুবই কষ্টকর, তাই মাঝেমধ্যেই মেসে অবস্থান করা ছাত্র-ছাত্রী সবাই মিলে কিছু অতিরিক্ত টাকা দিয়ে ভালো খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করে। প্রতিটি মেসেই প্রায় প্রতি মাসেই দুই থেকে তিনদিন কিছু অতিরিক্ত পরিমাণ টাকা তুলে এমন ভালো খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়। 

 

 

 

 

 

I am a student of Rajshahi University in Bangladesh and I got a seat in a government dormitory and stayed there. But due to the coronavirus epidemic, all educational institutions and government residential halls in Bangladesh have been closed since March 16. But I am still staying in a mess in Rajshahi city to continue my job studies.

 

আমি বাংলাদেশের রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্টুডেন্ট এবং আমি সরকারি ছাত্রাবাসে আসন বরাদ্দ পেয়ে সেখানেই অবস্থান করি। কিন্তু করোনাভাইরাস মহামারীর কারণে গত ১৮ মার্চ থেকে বাংলাদেশের সকল শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান এবং সরকারি আবাসিক হলগুলো বন্ধ আছে। কিন্তু চাকরির পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য আমি এখনো রাজশাহী শহরেরই একটি মেসে অবস্থান করছি।

 

 

 

There are about 18 of us students in the match I am in and today we have all arranged a good meal with an extra 100 takas. The person in charge of cooking in our mess cooks very nicely and the dishes he has made today have been very tasty. And we all ate them with a lot of fun.

 

আমি যে ম্যাচে অবস্থান করছি সেখানে প্রায় আমরা ১৮ জন ছাত্র অবস্থান করছি এবং আজকে আমরা সবাই মিলে ১০০ টাকা করে অতিরিক্ত দিয়ে একটু ভালো খাবারের ব্যবস্থা  করেছি। আমাদের মেসে রান্নার দায়িত্বে যিনি আছেন তিনি খুবই সুন্দর রান্না করেন এবং আজকে যে রান্না গুলো তিনি করেছেন সেগুলো খুবই সুস্বাদু হয়েছে। এবং আমরা সবাই অনেক মজা করে সেগুলো খেয়েছি।

 

 

 

In fact, it has become a cruel destiny for all the students in Bangladesh to study from the mess hall and eat low quality food every day. As a result, sometimes such good food arrangement gives them a lot of joy. 

 

আসলে বাংলাদেশে যে সকল স্টুডেন্ট মেসে থেকে লেখাপড়া করে প্রতিদিনের নিম্নমানের খাবার খাওয়া তাদের কাছে একটি নির্মম নিয়তিতে পরিণত হয়েছে। ফলে মাঝে মাঝে এমন ভালো খাবারের ব্যবস্থা তাদের মধ্যে অনেক আনন্দের সঞ্চার করে।
