উত্তর ভারতের প্রধান নদী হল যমুনা নদী। যমুনা নদীর দৈর্ঘ্য হল 1376 কিলোমিটার। এটি ভারতীয় প্রজাতন্ত্রের জাতীয় নদী গঙ্গার উপনদী। যমুনা নদীর উৎস হল হিমালয়ের পর্বত শৃঙ্গের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম পাদদেশে অবস্থিত যমুনা নেত্রী হিমবাহের ৬৩৮৭ মিটার উচ্চতায় অবস্থিত। যমুনা নদীর অবস্থান হল বান্দরপুর শৃঙ্গ উত্তরকাশী জেলা উত্তরাখণ্ড ভারত। যমুনা নদী উত্তরাখন্ড হরিয়ানা ও উত্তর প্রদেশে রাজ্যের মধ্য দিয়ে এবং হিমাচল প্রদেশ ও দিল্লির পাশ দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হয়েছে। প্রবাহ পথে একাধিক উপনদী জমা হতে মিলিত হয়েছে বৃহত্তম ও দীর্ঘতম উপনদী । বলা হয়ে থাকে যমুনা উপনদী নিজস্ব অববাহিকায় চলে । যমুনার অন্যান্য উপনদী গুলো হলো সিদ্ধ বেতোয়া ও কেন । যমুনা নদীর উপত্যকা সর্বপেক্ষা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এই যমুনা অনেক প্রকার মাছ রয়েছে। এই মাছগুলো খেতে এতটাই সাদ যে সবাই খেতে পছন্দ করে। অনেক দূর দূরান্তের লোক এসে এই যমুনা নদীর মাছ কেনার জন্য ভিড় করে। আমাদের এই যমুনা নদী অনেকগুলো শাখা রয়েছে । এই সবগুলো শাখায় একটা প্রধান নদীর সাথে যোগ আছে । এই নদীগুলো অনেক আঁকাবাঁকা হলেও দেখতে অনেকটা সুন্দর লাগে। আবার যমুনা নদীর পাশ দিয়ে রয়েছে অনেক কাশফুল । যেগুলো লোকজন দেখার জন্য এসে ভিড় জমায় এবং সেগুলোর থেকে অনেক আনন্দ উপভোগ করে। নদীর পাশ দিয়ে যখন বাতাস বই তখন কাশফুল চারিদিকে হেলেদুলে । যেগুলো দেখতে আরো অনেক সুন্দর লাগে । যারা আসলে প্রকৃতিতে পছন্দ করে তারা এগুলো ঘুরে ঘুরে দেখবে।
