DEFINITION OF RELIGIOSITY

Religion is rooted from the word religare which means binding, which refers to things that are felt very deeply, which are in contact with someone's desires that foster obedience and provide rewards or bind someone in a society (Nashori, 2002). According to Madjid (1992) one's religiosity is human behavior that is completely shaped by belief in the occult or supernatural, namely supra-empirical facts. Humans perform empirical actions as appropriate, but humans who have religiosity put the value and meaning of their empirical actions under the empirical supra. Religiosity is understood as a person's level of faith in living and practicing the teachings of the religion he adheres to. According to Mangunwijaya (1999) there is a difference between the appreciation of religion and religiosity. Religious appreciation is more focused on aspects of regulations, laws, organizations, rituals, formalities and social relations between adherents. While religiosity is more in essence which is the source and root of a person's basic attitude in relation to God and others, so it is more personal (Samsari, 2004).

Religiosity is often identified with religiosity. Religiosity is defined as how far the knowledge, how strong the belief, how the implementation of worship and the rules and how deep the appreciation of the religion he adheres to. For a Muslim, religiosity can be known from the extent of knowledge, belief, implementation and appreciation of the religion of Islam (Nashori and Mucharam, 2002). The understanding of religiosity based on the dimensions proposed by Glock and Stark in Ancok, (2005) is how far the knowledge, how strong the belief, how diligent the practice of worship and how deep the appreciation of one's religion is.

According to Ancok and Suroso (2001), religious behavior according to psychoanalytic theory is solely driven by the desire to avoid dangerous situations that will befall him and provide a sense of security for oneself. According to the Islamic perspective, religiosity is the act of carrying out economic, social, political or any activity in the context of worshiping Allah. There are fears of threats from the natural environment and human beliefs about all their limitations and weaknesses. This absolute sense of dependence makes humans look for strength from their surroundings that can be used as a protective force in their lives with a power that is outside of themselves, namely God.

In addition, the Qur'an has explained in detail 14 centuries ago about religiosity which is stated in Surah al-Nisa verse 59 which means: O you who believe, obey Allah and obey His Messenger and Ulil Amri among you. Then if you disagree about something, then return it to Allah and His Messenger, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is better for you and better as a result. On the other hand, Surah Al-Maidah verse 49 also provides a concrete explanation of religiosity: And decide between them according to what Allah has revealed and do not follow their desires. And beware of them, lest they turn you away from some of you from some of what Allah has revealed to you. If they turn away from the law that Allah has sent down, then know that Allah wills to befall them because of some of their sins. And verily most of the people are wicked people. Surah At-Taubah verse 105 also explains about religiosity which means: And say: Work you, then Allah and His Messenger and the believers will see your work, and you will be returned to (Allah) Who Knows the Unseen and the Unseen. manifest, then He will inform you of what you have done.

The Hadith of the Prophet also explains about religiosity in detail, namely Aisha r.a said: I have heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say in my house: O Allah, whoever controls something in the affairs of my Ummah, then makes it difficult for them, then make it difficult for him. And whoever takes care of my Ummah and is gentle with them, then make it easy for him. (HR. Muslim). This hadith explains the prohibition of a leader/government employee to be arrogant, elitist, repressive and bureaucratic or to complicate the affairs of the people. Because as we know, not a few leaders/employees are arrogant and complicate the affairs of the people. Whereas a leader according to this hadith must provide maximum service and not make it difficult for the citizens or the people. If all things can be made easy, why make it difficult? As a result, the bureaucracy, which was originally intended to make things easier, turned into a complicate of all public affairs. Therefore, if a leader likes to complicate the affairs of his people, then surely Allah will complicate all his affairs both in the world and in the hereafter.

Based on the description above, it can be concluded that religiosity is the depth of one's religious appreciation and practice and his belief in the existence of God, namely Allah, which is manifested by obeying orders and avoiding prohibitions with sincerity of heart and with all body and soul. Besides religiosity, it is also the status of the situation that exists within a person which encourages him to behave, behave and act in accordance with the teachings of the religion he adheres to.
