Namibia has announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup, with all-rounder Gerhard Erasmus appointed as captain. The talented cricketer will lead an experienced team that secured their spot in the tournament after an impressive unbeaten run at last year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, held on home soil.
Erasmus will be supported by vice-captain JJ Smit in what promises to be an exciting campaign for Namibia. Notably, twelve out of the fifteen players who featured in the qualifier have been retained in the squad, showcasing the team's cohesion and depth.
However, there are some notable omissions, with all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton, veteran Pikky Ya France, and rising star Shawn Fouche missing out on selection. Loftie-Eaton, who made headlines earlier this year for his record-breaking century against Nepal, will not be part of the squad for the tournament co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.
In their place, Namibia has included inexperienced talents such as seamer Dylan Leicher, left-arm quick Ruben Trumpelmann, and teenage sensation Jack Brassell, who impressed during the ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup.
Namibia finds themselves in Group B for the tournament, marking their third consecutive appearance at the T20 World Cup. Their journey kicks off with a match against Oman on June 2 in Barbados, followed by clashes against Scotland, Australia, and England.
With a balanced mix of experience and fresh talent, Namibia will be aiming to make their mark on the global stage and showcase the growing prowess of cricket in Africa.
