The Nerazzurro had a mission to stretch their lead after the Vecchia Signora's defeat against Napoli last Sunday. A goal they achieved by beating a difficult rival just enough, who had a chance of taking a point from Giuseppe Meazza.

The local team took advantage in the first half thanks to the goals of the Albanian Kristjan Asllani and the Chilean Alexis Sánchez -from a penalty-. Genoa reached injury time at the start of the complement thanks to Johan Vásquez, who scored what would be the final 2-1.
