The South American Football Confederation held this Thursday, December 7, the draw for the Group Stage of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™️, which will run from June 20 to July 14 of next year, in the United States.
This competition promises to be an unforgettable spectacle for football lovers around the world, with 16 participating teams that will be divided into four groups and with 32 exciting matches to be played.
The oldest national team tournament in the world returns to the United States eight years after the Centennial edition. A great competition that also featured the participation of six Concacaf teams, as guests, and this time the presence of the local squad, Mexico, Panama and Jamaica has been confirmed in the absence of two quotas being defined.
These two places will be defined by the play-off duels that will pit Canada against Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica against Honduras, on March 23, 2024.
In total, there will be 14 stadiums in the United States that will host the vibrant matches, four on the West Coast, five in the Central area and five on the East Coast. The opening game will be played on June 20 in Atlanta.
The Group Stage will be played from June 20 to July 2, the quarterfinals from July 4 to 6, the Semifinals on July 9 and 10, third place on July 13, and finally, the Final on July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium, with capacity for about 65,000 spectators.
According to the dynamics of the competition, two groups will play in the west and center of the country, and two groups in the east and center. The competition will move towards the east, the quarterfinals will be played in the west and the center; while the semi-final and final will take place in the east.
In the history of CONMEBOL Copa América™️ champions, Uruguay and Argentina, with 15 trophies each, dominate the table followed by Brazil with 9, Peru, Paraguay and Chile with 2 conquests, while Bolivia and Colombia have won the tournament that began in 1916.
The CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™️ will be played in the United States and includes 10 CONMEBOL teams and 6 guest teams from Concacaf. In this edition, this traditional tournament will be organized by both confederations.
The 6 Concacaf teams qualify through the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League. The already known representative teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean are the United States, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama. The other two Concacaf participants will be confirmed after a Play-In between Canada vs Trinidad and Tobago, and Costa Rica vs Honduras. This Play-In will take place in March 2024.
In the 48th edition of one of the most important competitions on the continent, this will be the
second time in the tournament's history that it will host 16 teams – having hosted the same number of teams in its 2016 edition, also held in the United States.
Teams that have won 10 FIFA World Cup™️ titles and the biggest stars in world football will take to the field to play 32 matches in this edition of the tournament in June and July 2024.
