WHAT IS IN YOUR HAND?

"His divine power has given us
everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness" (2 Peter 1:3, NIV)

This question appears for the first time in Exodus 4:2, where God called Moses and told him to go and lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Moses however was afraid that they won't believe him, and he asked for a sign of the power of God and God asked him this question 'What is in your hand?' To Moses it was just a rod but to God it was an instrument for miracles. The rod by the power of God became the rod of God (Exodus 4:20) and it was used to part the red sea, perform the 10 plagues, bring water out of the rock etc. Our text paints a clear picture of what happens when we put to good use whatsoever God has put into our hands.

God had told Moses in Exodus 4:17, to take the rod in his hand, with which he shall do the signs. This Rod in the hand of Moses has remained the Rod of God, working for the people of God through the hand of Moses. When Moses lifted up his hand (with the rod in it, v. 9), the people of God prevailed. When he let down his hand the enemies prevailed. It wasn't Moses' hand; it was God working through the rod He gave him.

God works with what is in our hands. Lift it up to God in the place of prayer. Manytimes we look outside ourselves for help to do something, thus doubting God's ability to use that which he had placed in us. God uses our little and makes it into something more than enough for us. God has put a rod (a word, talent, business idea, spiritual gift, song, etc.) in your hand. Do not despise what you have now be grateful for it, nurture it with all of your heart, lift it up in the place of prayer and speak the word of God into it then watch God use it to increase you.

God has made available for us everything necessary for life and righteousness.
