THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has given directives that all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre service providers to arrest and report any parent, who is spotted near any of the computer facilities and hardwares during the 2024 UTME examination period.

The directive was reported to be issued at the last briefing and guidelines training of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) service provision, which took place virtually on Wednesday, 17th April, 2024.

JAMB spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, made it publicly known that this directive was given owing to the lackadaisical manners and attitudes of some intruding parents and guardians during the Board’s previous exercises in the past.

The spokesperson, who quoted JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede a former Unilorin vice chancellor, said any parent, who goes against this order, would not only be arrested but also his/her ward would also be disqualified simultaneously from sitting for the examination.

Oloyede explained that taken this measure became essential as it has been discovered over time that most of these intruding parents are promoters of examination infractions while others by their actions and motives distabilised the Board’s examination exercise in the past.

He added that some miscreants and mischievous elements also disguise as parents to infiltrate the centres in order to carry out all forms of infractions and malpractices.

"The Board’s helmsman noted that going by the extant national policy on education, a candidate for the examination must have attained the age of 17 years.
Therefore, it is evident that these parents had not allowed their wards to pass through the classes as defined in the document, hence, the determination to follow their wards to the examination venue with the aim of compromising examination officials.
At any rate, it is clear to any discerning observer that these parents deserve to be sanctioned as they had obviously ‘smuggled’ underage children into the ranks of those scheduled to sit the examination
"Source as reported in the media.

Furthermore, the Registrar said all arrangements have been met for the conduct of the 2024 exercise, which is scheduled to be held in over 700 CBT centres across the nation.

He disclosed that the Board expects a seamless and a smoothly run exercise but it has however made adequate provision to tackle and forestall any technical glitch that might set in the course of the examination.

He, however, stated that if a session experienced any technical challenge, candidates in subsequent sessions would be permitted to sit their examination as previously scheduled while the candidates in the affected session would be repositioned for the last session for the day or the next day or even further extension of days based on the centre schedules and session designs
