The McLaren Formula 1 team has been the first to unveil "important" details about its single-seater for the 2024 season. The Woking-based team has gone ahead of everyone else -even the Haas team- to unveil the livery with which its cars will compete in the new season.

An unusual strategy, especially considering that Zak Brown's team had already set a conventional presentation date for the MCL38 itself, which will take place on February 14. However, it cannot be said that this is not the first time that F1 has seen something like this, since Mercedes sabotaged its own presentation twice during the 2021 season through publications on social networks.

This time, the team that last year finished fourth in the constructors' championship, has taken by surprise the rest, especially Haas, which has been characterized precisely by always bringing forward its presentation date.

In this way the main protagonists of the legendary British team have taken the floor in a statement to record their motivation for the new course and the new colors of a McLaren with greater presence of black, and completely banishes the blue. With silver numbers reminiscent of the special decoration of the British GP of 2023.

In Woking has been presented the last single-seater of the 'papaya' for a season in which they hope to continue taking steps forward and fight for podiums.

The 2024 season is getting closer and closer, while the presentation period is coming to an end. Before the Mercedes W15 was presented today, it was McLaren's turn to show its new machinery.

The new MCL38, with which McLaren hopes to surprise again, has been presented.

Gone are the years in which McLaren was mired in the depths of the grid. Despite a bad start with the MCL60, which Woking warned about at the beginning of the season, the improvements introduced proved to be effective and we saw McLaren again as they had not been seen in years.

With nine podiums and a fourth place in the constructors' world championship, although in many races at the end of the year they were the second force, in Woking they hope to improve their results during the next season with the updates shown in the MCL38.

Despite this, they have also warned from Woking that they will not carry all the updates they want from Bahrain, so they will need several Grands Prix to show the full potential of what they have in their hands.

As for the design, it was not a mystery, as this 'livery' had already been shown previously by the team. After a year in which they had up to six different decorations distributed throughout the season, McLaren has chosen to refer to their cars from the late 80s and early 90s (as they also did in one of their designs during 2023) but keeping the current colors of the team. In addition, the blue that has accompanied them in recent seasons disappears and there is a greater presence of black, following the current 'fashion' of the teams to remove the paint to save a few kilos.

Expectations have been made clear: McLaren wants to be able to compete for everything again. Although Lando Norris already warned during his renewal that it is difficult for that to happen until 2026, he has also made it clear that he is confident that this year they can reap victories.

The new MCL38 will be put to the test today at Silverstone, where they will hold a filming day as many of their rivals have already done, as confirmed by Zak Brown: "It's fantastic to be able to present our 2024 competitor, the MCL38, at Silverstone today. It's great to see our new car in 2024 colors on the track and to see the hard work and dedication of the team."

They will also test the car two days before the pre-season test in Bahrain, although Lando Norris can't wait to try it out at the test and Grand Prix in Sakhir: "I'm excited to get behind the wheel of the MCL38 and see how it performs. The livery on the new car looks really good, so it's fun to get out on track today. I'm looking forward to testing the car in Bahrain.

I have every confidence in the team and that we will continue to make progress after last season's turnaround. However, the real test of our progress will come when we put the car through its paces in practice ahead of qualifying and the race at the Bahrain Grand Prix."

Los autos de la F1 al desnudo para la temporada 2024: McLaren muestra el nuevo MCL38 el monoplaza de Lando Norris y Oscar Piastri que pretende volover a ser protagonista.

El equipo McLaren de Fórmula 1 ha sido el primero en desvelar detalles “importantes” sobre su monoplaza para la temporada 2024. La escudería de Woking se ha adelantado a todos los demás –incluso al equipo Haas–para dar a conocer la decoración con la que competirán sus monoplazas en el nuevo curso.

Una estrategia inusual, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que los de Zak Brown ya habían fijado una fecha de presentación convencional, del MCL38 propiamente dicho que tendrá lugar el día 14 de febrero. Sin embargo tampoco se puede decir que sea la primera vez que la F1 presencia algo así, hola pues en la temporada 2021 Mercedes se encargó de sabotear su propia presentación hasta en dos ocasiones a través de publicaciones en las redes sociales.

En esta ocasión, el equipo que el año pasado finalizó en cuarta posición en el campeonato de constructores, ha tomado por sorpresa al resto, especialmente a Haas, que se ha caracterizado precisamente por adelantar siempre su fecha de presentación.

De esta manera los principales protagonistas de la mítica escudería británica han tomado la palabra en un comunicado para dejar constancia de su motivación por el nuevo curso y por los nuevos colores de un McLaren con mayor presencia del color negro, y que destierra totalmente el azul. Con unos dorsales en plata que recuerdan a la decoración especial del GP de Gran Bretaña de 2023.

En Woking ha sido presentado el último monoplaza de los 'papaya' para una temporada en la que esperan seguir dando pasos hacia adelante y pelear por podios.

La temporada 2024 está cada vez más cerca, mientras finaliza el periodo de presentaciones. Antes de que hoy se presente el W15 de Mercedes, le llegó el turno a McLaren para mostrar su nueva maquinaria.

Han quedado atrás los años en los que McLaren estaba sumido en lo más profundo de la parrilla. A pesar de un mal comienzo con el MCL60, del cual ya advirtieron desde Woking al principio de la temporada, las mejoras introducidas resultaron efectivas y volvimos a ver a McLaren como no se les veía en años.

Con nueve podios y un cuarto puesto en el mundial de constructores, aunque en muchas carreras a finales de año fueron la segunda fuerza, en Woking esperan incluso mejorar sus resultados durante la próxima temporada con las actualizaciones mostradas en el MCL38.

Pese a ello, también han avisado desde Woking que no llevarán todas las actualizaciones que desean desde Bahréin, por lo que necesitarán varios Grandes Premios para mostrar todo el potencial de lo que tienen entre manos.

En cuanto al diseño, no fue un misterio, ya que esta 'livery' ya se había mostrado anteriormente por el equipo. Después de un año en el que tuvieron hasta seis decoraciones diferentes distribuidas a lo largo de la temporada, McLaren ha optado por hacer referencia a sus coches de finales de los años 80 y principios de los 90 (como ya hicieron también en uno de sus diseños durante 2023) pero manteniendo los colores actuales del equipo. Además, desaparece el azul que les ha acompañado en las últimas campañas y hay una mayor presencia del negro, siguiendo la 'moda' actual de los equipos de suprimir la pintura para ahorrarse unos kilos.

Las expectativas han quedado claras: McLaren quiere volver a ser capaz de competir por todo. Aunque Lando Norris ya advirtió durante su renovación que es difícil que eso ocurra hasta 2026, también ha dejado claro que confía en que este año puedan cosechar victorias.

El nuevo MCL38 se pondrá a prueba hoy en Silverstone, donde realizarán un filming day como ya han hecho muchos de sus rivales, según confirmó Zak Brown: "Es fantástico poder presentar hoy en Silverstone a nuestro competidor de 2024, el MCL38. Es genial ver nuestro nuevo coche con los colores de 2024 en la pista y comprobar el duro trabajo y la dedicación del equipo".

También probarán el monoplaza dos días antes de los test de pretemporada en Bahréin, aunque Lando Norris no puede esperar a probarlo en los test y el Gran Premio en Sakhir: "Estoy emocionado por ponerme al volante del MCL38 y ver cómo funciona. La decoración del nuevo coche tiene muy buena pinta, así que es divertido poder salir hoy a la pista.

Estoy deseando probar el coche en Bahréin. Tengo plena confianza en el equipo y en que seguiremos avanzando tras el cambio de rumbo de la temporada pasada. Sin embargo, la verdadera prueba de nuestro progreso llegará cuando pongamos el coche a prueba en los entrenamientos, antes de la clasificación y la carrera del Gran Premio de Bahréin".
