About hundreds of All Progressives Congress (APC) members from Sabon Birni Local Government Area have joined the Peoples Democratic Party as the flood of defections from the party continues in Sokoto State (PDP).

The PDP governorship candidate for the 2019 general elections, Mallam Saidu Umar, welcomed the defectors at the weekend and told them that they had switched to the winning party, citing the PDP as the party that assures fairness and inclusivity for all of its members.

The candidate went on to say that if elected, his administration would build on and maintain the achievements of the current administration, particularly in those areas that directly impact the welfare of the populace.

He declared that the sectors of security, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, and education will receive top focus. Umar stated that if given the chance to lead the state, he will bring back normalcy and peaceful cohabitation in the region's eastern region of Sokoto, notably the Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

In order to eliminate instability in the region, he praised the current administration for its substantial contribution. He gave the residents of the local government assurances that he would enhance and expand upon the current administration's strategies.
