Learn and work.

Education is handsomely appreciated now in Africa and in Nigeria to be specific. But I have small issues with the way the system works. The school curriculum is a little bit unbalanced to meeting up the child's need for the present Nigeria and to what the world needs.

All I see is theory work and little or zero practical which makes schools produce consumers rather than producers. He that produces what he eats is a wealthy man but he who buys all he eats is a slave to the producer.

While growing up in the early 1990s, arts and crafts where emphasized on . Learners were encouraged to become producers using the local crafts as a start point. You dare not buy any already made craft to present to your teachers must by yourself make them. DIY

In this present time, arts and crafts as well as do it yourself gets little or no encouragement making our kids lazy. In my 12 years of teaching experience, I see high decrease in encouraging younger people to do things themselves.

I won't forget a child I taught in primary 4 he understands no other language aside pictures he makes beautiful sketches of imaginary objects and I spoke to the mother to engage the child in the area of his strength she said God forbids I was shocked at her she just wants the child to read and write but sorry the child is in a different world. Pictures means everything to him at 11 he couldn't his own name.

The way out as I suggested, let the child attend the normal classes and after school hours he joins an artist in his studio to perfect his abilities this again the mother rejected.
Learn and work is the best way to help our children because I think every child needs to have a skill.

In the photos attached here, is a furniture workshop and I know many young people who go to secondary school and in the afternoon after school comes here to learn and it keeps the young lad busy and crime is reduced.
.
My sister's son is 13 and he's a hair stylist this had desired and his parents sent him to learn while going to school.

Let us encourage our young ones to get a skill at the early stage to become productive adults tomorrow.
