[Kiev]: Holy place

 Hi friends!

Familiarity with the culture and traditions of different countries always expands our knowledge. I continue to talk about my country - Ukraine. Today we are again mentally transported to the capital of Ukraine-the city of Kiev.

Ukraine has its miracles and one of them is located in Kiev - Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Precisely about it today's post. Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is considered to be the Ukrainian miracle of history. This monument of history and architecture has been under UNESCO control since 1990. Only five Orthodox monasteries in the historical territory of Russia bear the title of "Lavra", three of them are in Ukraine. Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is one of the three. Of the Kiev caves was founded in 1051 by Yaroslav the Wise. The age of all the magnificent buildings leads to delight and admiration.

Every time visiting Kiev, we are sure to walk through the monastery. This is one of the Holy places in Ukraine. Thousands of monks each child pray for our country and people. The monastery occupies a huge territory on the banks of the Dnieper river. The Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra has existed for almost a thousand years. According to legend, a few centuries before the Foundation of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the place where it is located, was visited by the Holy Apostle Andrew. Having put a cross on one of the hills, the Apostle predicted that over time a city with many churches would be founded here. And it happened.

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra-is perhaps one of the most famous and popular attractions of Kiev. Both residents of the capital and its guests, pilgrims and believers, and ordinary tourists come here. It attracts men, women, old people and children. This place is interesting ancient history, interesting artifacts, the beauty of churches and miraculous icons, mysterious caves and amazing legends. In 1073, Anthony built here the Cathedral of the assumption of the blessed virgin. The word "Lavra" in Greek means a built-up quarter or a Church parish. Gradually the monastery became the spiritual core of all Russia. It formed a centre for the training of the priesthood.  Some conducted missionary activity in the lands unenlightened by the light of Christ. In addition, in the early 1200-ies of the Kyiv Pechersk brethren in the different diocese Rus 50 were ordained bishops. Different hard times experienced Lavra. This fires, wars, redistribution of power. But with courage all was survived. The most beautiful spiritual place of monks works in our days.

The territory of the complex is very large - only 28 hectares of total area, and it is divided into two parts – two hills separated by a ravine. Therefore, there is an upper territory – with a higher hill, and the lower territory-with a lower hill. On top of the site today is a nature reserve, and on the bottom – the monks live. The monastery belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and is subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate. Before I came to Kiev, there was a fire on the territory of the monastery. This is associated with new political and religious trends in Ukraine. The fire was extinguished. I didn't see any signs of fire anywhere. That's good.

I really like the high chapel on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. I have climbed many times to the top of the chapel. The view is stunning on Kiev and the Dnieper river. Narrow steps make the climb very heavy. Older people think hard to be able to do it. Cheerful monk with a smile offers to go up to the bells to the top of the chapel. But you get so tired that the second time seems unattainable for you;)

The underground caves of the monastery are very attractive. There rest a lot of Holy monks and Church leaders. But you also need to prepare for the tour. Narrow transitions with the lighting of candles. Clothing should be in accordance of visiting the Holy places. If a woman does not have a skirt and a scarf, you can take at the entrance. It is better to go down to the cave with a guide-monk, learn more interesting from a knowledgeable person. I like this excursion to the past very much. I've been underground in these caves three times already. Here they bring sick people for healing. It is believed that the monastery is very strong healing energy. I always enjoy walking in these places. I feel free and empowered.

If you are on a tourist trip to Kiev, be sure to visit the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Look at the beauty of architectural structures and interiors of Christian symbols. It is very beautiful and informative.

 Until next time, @r3benok
